Misc Almost Gerbics

When doing genealogy research, sometimes you come across documents that aren't exactly yours.  A good researcher never throws anything away, but hangs onto it in the hope that somehow, someday it might come in handy.

Here I have a few documents that might just fit this category.  The really wonderful thing about the Internet is the searching capabilities of it.  Someone might put in this persons name looking for their family and here this document pops up, answering all their questions, maybe even the last link they needed.

For what its worth here they are....

Hi Sara, I found your page and find it very interesting. I was in contact with one of the family members in Ca. some years ago following a reply from a lady in Cleveland. I have been in contact with Gary in Chattanooga also and can safely say I do not feel there is any connection between my family group and your's. In one respect I was disappointed as I hoped for help in piecing together my elusive bunch. I am from Milwaukee and my family came from east of the Oder River in Pomerania which is now Poland. My GF Karl Gerbitz came from Kallies (Kalisz Pomorski) in former Kreis Dramburg. Most Gerbitz's in Wisconsin and the great plains states are from the Naugard area which is northwest about 60 miles from Kallies. Some came from other isolated areas along the Oder or even over into the Hamburg area. I am bringing this to your attention if you were not aware of this already. I saw a list of names which seems to piece the Gerbitz and Gerbic names as alternatives and are slavic in nature. There is a small village called Gerbitz just northeast of Bernburg Germany which is about 80 miles SW of Berlin. I was in contact with a German from there and he never knew of a Gerbitz family living there and the town is 800 years old. Type in Gerbitz Germany on google and it will come up with some kind of brick company there. Congragulations on starting up a website for your clan  and wish you best of results. I just came back from Englewood Fl. last Monday following the death of my brother Myron and strange as it seems a lady whom I believe was the wife of Edward in Sarasota was listed in the obits along with my brother. I have a copy should you be interested. I am a native of Milwaukee and moved to Tn. in 1986.  Best wishes from Gene Gerbitz in Murfreesboro Tn.

Hi Susan, I am just trying to go over some of my email stuff and cant recall answering your question about the Florida Gerbitz obituaries. Unfortunately I cant find the copy of paper I thought I had with me but what it was is that along with my brother Myron's notice in that days list was another of a Gerbitz woman who is I believe the wife of Edward Gerbitz  formerly of Sarasota Fl. Edward is the father of Gary Gerbitz of Chattanooga Tn.and are part of the Cleveland Ohio Gerbitz family They are of Austrian Yugoslav origin and no doubt related to you but certainly not to me.I don’t know if you have been into the Ellis Island records but there are some Gerbitz's in there coming from that Austrian area and a couple from German colonies in Russia. I cant vouch for the Gerbic name as I have not explored that name.Thats all now ,good searching     Gene Gerbitz
