"Joyce was born in 1942 in Granite City, Ill.  (note: this is JoAnn's sister) She died 2 years later of spinal meningitides.  Grandfather Mike came to America from Trieste with uncles Joe and Steve.  Mike moved to Granite City.  Joe and Steve changed their last name spelling to Gerbick!  They operated a grocery store in Indianapolis.  I recall them both wearing those little black skull caps, tams, I think they were called.  Elizabeth E. Grabian, (her brother and his family lived in South St. Louis.  I have lost touch with them.)  She met my Grandfather in Utah it was her second marriage.  That first marriage produced Aunt Nellie who later married Mathew Jurich.  They resided in Chicago.  Mathew preceded her in death some 20 years ago,  Nellie died in 03 at age 99 one month before her 100th.  Her son also named Mathew still resides in Chicago.  We used to call the elder Mathew, Uncle Matt.  Both were accomplished musicians and recordings of old country music played by them still exists.  My dad played professionally on the radio out of St. Louis as "Panama Joe".  Grandma E. Gerbic, nee Grabian, married Mike while in Utah and they moved to Panama where my dad Joseph and his 3 sisters were born.  Francis, Anna and Lena. 

As the youngest and least informed this is the best I can do.  I recall Grandma E. Gerbic's 1st husbands last name was Dadovitz.  We have looked up and listened to our opera star, Anna.  Exciting isn't it? 

Phil here,  Elizabeth met and married Mike after a previous marriage that produced Nell! We have no history of her 1st marriage.   They then proceeded to Illinois, principally Panama where the coal mines were.  Incidentally, Panama was home town to John L. Lewis a famous Coal miner union activist who became president of the coal mine workers union in later years.  I assume mining would have been the item of interest in Utah in those days.  A tam is a Scottish word for a small hat.  Best way to describe the thing is like the little skull caps worn by devout Jews and some Catholic clergy."
